A few milestones were met today. Eli got to officially meet his baby brother (for a few quick moments), and momma got to hold David for the first time. It brings some positives to this otherwise difficult situation. Eli and Anna both also got some time to play in the playroom, and it would wonderful to see and play with both of them after a few days apart.
David is recovering nicely from his surgery. He has a few issues he’s dealing with, but they are not uncommon after a surgery. His upper lobe on his right lung collapsed a bit so he’s been doing some respiratory therapy throughout the day and will have an x-ray in the morning to check on its progress.
His blood pressure is a little high yet, as is his heart rate. They are working on ways to try to bring those down via various medications he’s taking. He was weaned off some medications today as well, and they are also trying to remove some of the extra fluids from his body from the surgery.
His right leg is still having some circulation issues. It seems like sometimes the pulse can be found, and other times it’s still difficult. We’re hoping it is progressing in the right direction though.
Finally, David had an NG tube placed today, and has started to get some milk into his belly. So far he’s been handling that well, and even had his first poopy today (actually quite a few).
We’re hoping to try to reduce the ventilator soon, so that maybe by the end of the week, he won’t have that anymore and can finally cry and make some noises. You can tell he tries to cry (or scream) sometimes with how he squishes his face, turns red, and opens his mouth, and it would be lovely if he could use his voice. Since birth, he’s been on room air, so it seems promising.
