It was brought to my attention, that today is day 50 of our current hospital stay. In some ways it feels longer, and other ways it doesn’t feel like that long at all. Well, today was a fantastic day for Mr. David. He exceeded expectations with his fluid goals and only took in 519 ml of the 540 ml he was allotted! He looks so good, and is gearing up for extubation tomorrow. We are feeling fairly positive that it will work this time with all the fluid he has lost this week. The one downfall of having no breathing tube in though, is that we will have to share a nurse (that is, if he’s not on scuba). We love our one nurse to one patient ratio, but are excited to see David progress as well.

His nurse today ordered him a bolster chair, and oh my goodness, David is so adorable in it. The goal is to sit in it for an hour at a time (minimum). When OT came by today, they got him up in the chair for the first time, and he lasted 45 minutes. The second time he lasted an hour. He’s going to do a lot more of those upright exercises once his breathing tube is out, and he’ll get to be held by mommy and daddy again! We are very much looking forward to those cuddles, and they will do wonders for his lungs as well. In the mean time, they weaned his vent settings again today, and David has still tolerated it quite well.

This afternoon while sitting in his chair, it was brought to my attention that we were missing the Buffs game, so I turned it on for David. I’m not sure if he is a Gators fan or not, but he started to get upset and the Gators kept picking away at the Buffs lead. David was also approaching his 1 hour mark sitting, so after a couple minutes I turned the game off and put his music back on to help keep him calm. His sedation meds were also weaned today. Tomorrow I think he’ll be back to not having them anymore – at least not the IV drip ones.

  1. Praise God for his blessings 🙌🏻 So much to celebrate 🥳 I’ve got to take David’s side on the preference of music over the game🤣 Eli’s expression over the snow is priceless 😂 Thank you God for your grace and continued blessings upon David🙏🏻

  2. Lord, thank you being with David and the whole Tilly family as he heals. What a blessing it would be for him to be held by mom and dad. Please have that be a reality soon and thank you for holding him in your loving hands. Amen.

  3. Another good day! Praying for success during today’s procedure – comfort and care for you and Adam, and sure hands and sharp minds for the medical team.

  4. Wonderful to see David sitting up and looking at you! Great to see him looking more like himself now. And 50 days is quite a milestone. Praying for the extubation, for David and his care team and for all of you. Hoping you can hold him soon. ❤️ PS I got a website from my sister-in-law, who’s been a lactation consultant, if you’re still looking for a place to donate milk: https://www.mnmilkbank.org/donate-milk/depots

  5. That first picture was sobering with all the tubes and iv’s and leads. Hope they’re gone soon.
