Today it was decided to not wake David anymore overnight for his respiratory treatments, so they are now all squeezed into the wakeful hours. It was kind of funny – every time I got to hold David today, a short time later respiratory came in to get him his nebulizers. David does not like his nebulizers – the first time I was holding him he was asleep and they immediately woke him up.

Otherwise, David remained NPO (no feeds) today. He was not therapeutic in his aspirin, but this ends up being that he actually needs more aspirin so that will not help him with his bleeding. No one really knows what is causing his bloody stools, but another thought is maybe David has a dairy allergy. The team is hoping to check in with the GI doctors though to see if they have any other thoughts.

Otherwise, David had a fairly uneventful day. He was super happy this morning and finally shared lots of big smiles with his nurse. David also got his dressings changed and a bath, and then lots of playtime and books. At one point, he got a little fussy in his chair, so we eventually turned on a Bluey episode. It had a message that was just what we needed to hear (as Bluey tends to do), but it was about one of Bingo’s “children” who needed hospitalization to get better. The dad told the baby that they would not fall behind because all their brothers and sisters and mom and dad would always be there to support them “cuz we’re a family, and you mean the world to us.” The dad could have been speaking directly to David in that scene.

Otherwise, the bigger kids hung out in David’s room and played memory before going down to the hospital playground. After lunch, they went over to the nearby Riverside playground.

  1. Congratulations David on an uneventful day🎉 You certainly had a day filled with a lot of great events and family time 👏🏻 Sweet dreams and Jesus loves you🙏🏻

  2. Thank you (again) for sharing your family. It looks like Eli and Anna are having a grand time playing in the “dirt”. It is wonderful to read about David’s adventures with OT, new toys and now Bluey. Today, I am praying for insight and knowledge for the medical team to resolve David’s feeding issues.

  3. Good to hear all the recent positive changes for David! So happy that he is getting so much connection with everyone around him and growing even closer in all his family relationships. And that Eli and Anna keep having fun there. Praying for continued good care and healing, and that they can figure out what’s causing the bloody stools so he can eat again.
