Not much to say so far. David received a bronch this morning and it seemed to clear out his lungs a little bit. Neurology has not seen any seizure activity so far. Around 3:30, David was taken back to the operating room to attempt ECMO decannulation. It sounds like, David still was not able to maintain his oxygen saturations without ECMO. Therefore, they are going to remove his Sano shunt and replace it with a central shunt. This is not conventional, as most Norwoods use either the BTT shunt or the Sano shunt. The modified BTT was not going to work for David because of his heart physiology – it was going to require a really long shunt which was not going work, and the Sano shunt is clearly not working for him either. We are still waiting to learn more about how his Central Shunt placement is going, but this shunt will connect his new aorta to his pulmonary artery and hopefully he’ll be able to maintain his oxygen saturations with it.
I was thinking and praying a lot for David today while I was receiving acupuncture and whatever else in a quiet room for 30 minutes! Beautiful music was playing and I was wondering if music is playing for David in the background. It’s so therapeutic. His medical team is really on top of things and that has to be so reassuring for all of you. Peace and healing until we hear next from you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We often have music playing for David. Lately we’ve let his nurses choose what gets played.
🙏🏼
Praying for you all, with all David’s procedures today and upcoming, and that you all rest well. ❤️
