How to describe the day? Neither great but not terrible either. There were several times throughout the day that David needed attention. I don’t know what it is about him, but he likes it when everyone comes into his room to watch his numbers and try to figure out how to improve them. This morning it was his arrhythmia yet again, and later on it was his oxygen saturation levels being low. At least that’s what it shows on the pulse ox, but his nurse would then do a blood draw to check the gas levels and it would come back within his range. She tried moving his probe, changing his probe, changing it to a different style probe, bringing in a new machine, none of it worked. I think David was giggling at the situation – Eli must have taught him how to be a trickster.
When the room was full of doctors, nurses, and everyone else this morning troubleshooting David’s arrhythmia, we got a visit from Fern and her “mom”. They were concerned David was having another really bad day, but we just explained it’s something David does now. Hopefully they can come up with a solution for it soon, but we got a lot of Fern pets in and we also got a workbook for the Invisible String book to have further discussions with Eli.
With his paralytic turned off, David is able to move his hands and feet slightly which is fun to see. However, the highlight of my day was seeing him briefly open his eyes a couple times. If you’re not looking right at him, you might miss it, but I did love seeing his eyes again. I also got to help clean his hair and try to get more of the glue that was on the back of his head off. His hair is so soft and fluffy again.
The other highlight is David was once again a Bingo winner! This week it was sound effect bingo, which was pretty funny to watch, as all the sound effects were performed by the two hosts themselves (and Fern trying to nap between them). David won a little combine harvester toy to play with one he wakes up more.
I think dull days sound like best kind of days in David’s case. He can rest up for another round of ” what can I do to stump everyone today and get more attention “. His personality seems like he will be a handful once he gets out of the hospital and a little older. Which I can hardly wait to see. Lol prayers 🙏
Lots of exciting things going on👍🏻 That had to have been wonderful to help clean David and see him open his eyes❤️ He hears you and knows that you are near ❤️ Continued prayers for progress❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful that you got to see David open his eyes! And that he can move his hands and feet. Praying for continued healing and good spirits as you go through these long days. Always good to hear that Fern has been around, too. What a comfort a dog can be. And congrats on another Bingo win… David will be surprised when he wakes up to see all the new toys ! ❤️
