Today’s update:
- David’s upper lobe on his right lung is back open! He will continue respiratory therapy to make sure it stays that way.
- He weaned off of one blood pressure medication and is working on weaning off another
- His feeds were increased from 5 ml to 8 ml
- He is still working on decreasing the fluids in his body
- Eli and Anna visited the hospital, so I got some time with them while Adam got some time with David.
- This morning David was quite alert and I finally saw both of his eyes open again, which hasn’t happened since before his surgery.
David also received a blood transfusion today to increase his red blood cell count. However, his IV went bad mid-transfusion and his little hand flooded with blood. It looks very bruised and painful for him (I’m not sure if the bruising is from his blood or just looks that way because of all the blood under the surface of his skin from the transfusion). His hand IV was then moved to his head since that was the last remaining spot for an IV line to be placed.
David really enjoyed holding my finger today, and did not like to let go of it. Usually, I can get him to take one of his octopus’ tentacles in place of my finger, but not today. He must be learning that I’m momma, and taking comfort in knowing I’m near.
I also came home for the first time since leaving early Wednesday morning. When I told David I was going to spend the night at home with his sister and brother, his face immediately looked like it he was trying to scream at me. This is honestly one of the most difficult parts of this journey – trying to balance time with David while also balancing time with Eli and Anna. It feels like no matter what decision you make, you’re letting someone down. I know there is no right answer here, so I’m just trying to show myself some grace in these moments.
So far, David has done everything that has been asked of him, and has exceeded all expectations so far. He’s a strong and resilient little boy, and we are so blessed to have him in our lives.
Amen!!
David has been blessed with wonderful parents and siblings. He is a true warrior and blessed to have all of you fighting for him. Prayers for all of you on this journey.
Thank you, God, for the strength, faith and grace you have given Adam and Jessica. Guide them as they try to balance their lives. Thank you for this beautiful family. Please give them a huge hug. Amen
Continued prayers!! Stay strong David(and mom & dad).πππβ€οΈ
You and Adam are the very best parents ever for David – and Eli and Anna. Always remember and know that.
\I am in awe of the wonderful job Jessica has done in keeping us all abreast of David’s journey. She is great!!
Jessica and Adam, you have so much going on these days and I pray that you will set aside time to Just Be and Love. I appreciate that you have been so faithful in keeping us all updated with David’s progress and I send you PEACE each day. I like how you mentioned replacing your finger with an octopus tentacle but that it didn’t work the last time….. does he have a piece of your clothing that you have been wearing and has your scent on it that can be close to him? Continued prayers for healing, peace, and loveππ»β€οΈβπ»
