There’s really not much to say about today. David slept in late this morning. Once he awoke, he got his respiratory treatments, and then he had OT. He tolerated tummy time a little better than he has in the past, which was excellent. After OT, he spent quite a bit of time in his tumbleform chair, then it was time for nap. He only slept for a short time before he was awake again and inconsolable. Eventually, he got his ativan PRN and then he took a good nap sleeping the rest of the afternoon.

His food stayed at 24 kcal today, but he did get his lipids removed. This was the last continuous IV infusion he was receiving, so rather than run a continuous carrier with heparin to keep the lines open, they heparin blocked them. Now David is much more free – making it easier to pick him up and maneuver him.

For the most part, David was a little more on edge due to withdrawal today. Due to this, and his exercise in the AM, David did not leave his room. His nurse felt that David was not in a good spot today, and he’ll have other opportunities in the days ahead, so why rock the boat. We have his care conference on Tuesday, and I believe David is being discussed at the cardiology conference on Friday, so we need David to be in as good of a spot as possible. If we add other variables into the equation they could muddy his clinical picture, and it would not help David or his providers find the best possible path forward for him.

Otherwise, there were no changes for David today. His lactic acid remains slightly elevated, but all his other labs look good. So, we’ll just continue to monitor it for now.

  1. Slow and steady; progress over perfection; 1 day at a time; are the catch phrases that race through my mind while reading today’s summary. I was thinking about David when I was out feeding the horses, actually it was 1 in particular, Cricket. He is an older horse with health and mobility issues and on medication. He dislikes taking his medication….Seriously, who wants a big syringe of icky orange stuff going into their mouth? Anyway, after trying a few different ways, including me pretending that I’m eating his “treat” and enjoying it, he did get his medication. And then had lots of love, pampering, kisses, and a great brushing💙 I could tell from his behavior, mannerisms, and body language that he appreciated my efforts. It may or may not work tomorrow, but sometimes going out of the box can work wonders👍🏻
Thank you God for your abundance of blessings upon baby David and his family and his medical team. Amen

  2. It’s good to take a day of rest … and Sunday is a good choice for that. Praying for wisdom, discernment and hope for all involved with David’s care conference later this week.
