Well, after several good days in a row, it was about time for David to have a less happy day. He had an exciting day with therapies though. He didn’t have much change round-wise, but there were lots of discussions about his potential g-tube and what’s the next step if his bleeding returns. It sounds like David made some promises to not have bleeding again, but we’ll see. He’s not exactly trustworthy.

David could have used a really good nap today, but twice he got awoken – first by the cleaners, and then by me and nurses discussing Taylor Swift. Both times, he had trouble falling back to sleep and then ended up doing therapy. His first therapy of the day was PT accompanied by music therapy. He kind of whined his way through it, but really lit up when the music therapist arrived. He was pretty exhausted when they were finished, and we decided he could just sleep on his mat in his boppy.

His next therapy was a combined speech and OT session. David got a new high chair and got to do messy play for the first time, i.e. he tried carrots! He needs a little help in the high chair, and once his arms were supported so he didn’t have to lift them so much, he was putting the carrots from the tray, to his spoon, and then his mouth. He got messy, but he seemed to enjoy the little tastes he got – I don’t know how much he actually ate, but he was doing a chewing motion when things entered his mouth.

This afternoon, David had some episodes of throw up, and he kept desating. His hemoglobin was a little low for him a few days ago, and he had some blood saved for him in the blood bank from his last transfusion. That blood was set to expire on Friday, so he got that blood today to help with his hemoglobin. Before the blood arrived, he received a little oxygen support. Once again, we knew he would really enjoy his wagon, so we just sat him in his wagon and his sats started to improve. Then we went for a quick wagon ride before he received the blood, and by the end of the ride, he was no longer requiring oxygen support.

It’s hard to say why David was more out of sorts today – was it from his vaccines, his need for blood, or just tired from lack of good naps? Hopefully he sleeps well tonight and he returns to his smiley self tomorrow. Hopefully Fairy Godmother Taylor can help him out.

  1. Carrots?? Where is the chocolate cake and ice cream?,
I sure enjoy hearing how he likes his music therapy🎶 his godmother must play a part in that 💕

  2. Hope David feels better! Makes sense if it was vaccines causing it, but whatever it was, I hope it passes so that he can keep on eating and playing with his carrots! So cool that he is learning to feed himself. I’m always amazed at how many things a baby has to learn in such short time. No wonder he needs his naps! Continued prayers for good rest for all of you, and for any transplant red tape to get worked out.
