Today was fairly uneventful, which means it was a great day. The highlight of the day was holding David. Daddy got to hold David for the first time, and Mommy got to hold David for a second time! After holding him, he was quite alert for quite a while, and it was nice to see both of his eyes for so long. When we finished holding, his respiratory therapist came in, and David enjoyed every moment of that. He’s not going to like that these therapies have been reduced to every 6 hours from every 4 hours since he likes those chest and back “pats” or “massages”.

David’s feeds were also increased again (up to 11 ml every 3 hours), and his ventilator settings were lowered. David will continue to be monitored to see how he handles all of these changes.

Later this week, he will have an MRI to look at his head. This is something that typically occurs before the first surgery, but due to David’s rare circumstance, it was unable to be done prior. Ultrasounds of his head so far have not shown anything, so we’re not expecting anything to pop up. He will also have a PICC line placed sometime this week. Ideally, the MRI and PICC line will occur around the same time, but it’s not always possible to coordinate those two procedures together, so we’ll see.

We’re still adjusting and trying to figure out this new “normal”. Eli had a hard time today getting ready for school, and I think he’s been missing his mommy time. Hopefully it will get better with time as we start to find a new routine.

  1. David is a precious little baby! He’s so beautiful. Prayers that your new normal becomes easier on David’s siblings and on Mom & Dad. ❤️

  2. Love the pictures of you two holding David!! 💕 He is making good progress and working oh so hard. Will a PICC line mean he can get some of his other tubes removed?

    1. I believe the PICC line will replace the line(s) that he has inserted into his umbilical cord (UVC line). I’m not sure if any of the other things will be removed, or just moving those ones to the PICC line. From what I read, the umbilical cord line is easy to insert when first born and treatment is urgent, but it can’t stay in long term.

  3. It has to feel so wonderful for both of you to hold little David. He’s so precious. Special prayers for Eli & Anna & to you both.

  4. Oh my goodness…..such great progress David♥️ What a joy to be held by both Mommy and Daddy! He looks so alert! Are we seeing a Bison in training?

    1. Adam probably thinks so. I’ll have to teach him “Go Buffs!” He’s pretty sedated most of the time, so we love it when we can see his eyes.
