Progress updates for today include:

  • More ventilator weans. He had some trial runs today including turning the ventilator off for an hour with no issues. The plan is to be extubated tomorrow.
  • His feeds were increased again. The goal is to get to 50 ml every 3 hours, and he’s now at 20 ml.
  • His MRI is currently scheduled for Thursday afternoon. No update on the PICC line yet.
  • His temperature got a little elevated this afternoon. The highest we saw was 37.7 degrees celsius (I’ve learned everything is metric at the hospital). We called this evening for an update, and that was the highest it ever reached. We’re hopeful that it stays low and doesn’t become a fever.

And some of the little things:

  • We made some footprints
  • Strung together David’s beads of courage. He gets a bead for each procedure / milestone he endures. I think we’ve missed documenting some, but he still has a lot of beads for being only 6 days old.
  • His name is finally David in the hospital system. Until this, all his paperwork called him Male-Jessica
  • We read him some of Eli and Anna’s favorite books, and he seems to enjoy Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See.
