Today David passed his carseat test. It’s one step closer to going home. He had to sit in it for 90 minutes and his respiration rate, heart rate, and oxygen saturation were monitored throughout.
However, once again, David lost weight today compared to yesterday. This is going to keep him in the hospital for a while longer. He needs to consistently gain weight before he will be discharged. It sounds like the team will check in with nutrition to see if they want to change anything about his diet. For the most part, his diet is completely out of our control. The team decides how much milk he gets, how much it is fortified, and the frequency of it. Whatever he doesn’t take by bottle still gets put into his stomach via the tube, so they know exactly how much food he’s taking in. Nutrition will also decide if he needs to go home with his feeding tube. So now our hopes are that David will start to gain some weight every day and take his medications and full bottles orally so we don’t have to worry about that tube. Overnight, they added a little tether to his tube making it harder for him to dislodge the tube, and I’ve started to put his hands into mittens so he can’t grab it.
He took all his medications orally, which is a great stride in getting that tube removed. I was a little worried about the multivitamin because it’s a fairly large dose and does not taste good, but he rocked it. He did leave a fair amount in one bottle today which was a little discouraging. He really wanted the bottle earlier, but it took a while for it to arrive since speech was coming with it, and by the time it showed up, he was sleepy and didn’t really wake up.
The team also decided that with Eli and Anna being under the weather, it’s best to keep David here as well to allow them time to get better. They don’t want to send him home to only have him end up back in the hospital with an illness a couple days later.
For now David will remain in the hospital working on his weight gain while Eli and Anna try to get healthy. We’re excited for whenever David can come home, but for now, the hospital is the best place for him.
Praying for weight gain for David (sure wish I could give him some of mine) and for Eli and Anna to get well quickly. You are absolutely right, the hospital is the best place for him as the last few details are worked out. Hugs to you all.
I could give all my excess weight and he would be a full grown man when left lol.
We all are continuing to pray for David, that he gains weight and keeps progressing well. Also praying for Eli and Anna to feel better soon!😘
Praying all the time that your family can all be together. Dave’s health team are so wonderful at watching over him with all their concerns. It’s a good idea to wait a few days till everyone is better. Prayers for everyone to get better 🙏
I read this a little late but I hope Adam, Eli and Anna are all healing well so that David can come home very soon.
