Happy New Year! David is officially two months old now. He has had some trouble gaining weight since his cath last week. Upon our first hospital discharge we were given a book with everything we are to track along with reasons to call. On New Years Eve, David fit the criteria for two of the reasons to call – he had not gained the minimum threshold over 3 days, and he had lost too much weight from the previous day. So, we had to make a call to the on-call pediatric cardiologist. We ended up reducing the amount in each bottle (the irony), since he had been spitting up a lot the day prior. The hope was smaller feeds would keep more in his stomach to allow him to pack on the calories. It did seem to work as he gained the weight he lost the next day, and a tiny amount the day after. He’s been on an upward trend since then – but I’m always nervous when it comes time to weigh him. We are also attempting a different formula fortifier the dietician had suggested which may reduce spit up as well. Hopefully our upward trend continues – we’ve had more spit up today again.

Otherwise, David is still dealing with a cough. The on-call cardiologist recommended his siblings give him some space and stay away to avoid giving him more germs, and of course Anna took that to mean give him even more love, hugs, and kisses 🤦‍♀️. She really is the sweetest.

His main cardiologist is still out this week, so today was mainly a day of checking his progress to make sure nothing major has changed since last week. Everything looked good – the pressures on the echo were unchanged from last week.

One good thing that came out of his cath procedure last week is that I believe he only got his meds once while he was in the hospital. This means all his meds were given at the same time, and has made the transition home much easier since we no longer have medications to administer at various hours throughout the day and night. We have considerable amount of time now between medications now, which has made finding time for rest much easier.

Adam and I (well, mostly Adam), has begun the process of seeing what kind of help David may qualify for, to try to get something set up for when I start to return to work at the end of the month. I’m not really feeling prepared to go back as it feels like we are still far from a consistent routine, but I’m going to at least attempt part time work because I’m going to want to save some time for his next surgery whenever that may be. It will be another adjustment, but hopefully it works out.
