One week. It's been one week since we said goodbye to David. I've wanted to post something for a while, but it is a struggle. If anyone is familiar with Randy Pausch's Last Lecture, at the end he said the whole lecture was a head fake. It was not a lecture for those in the … Continue reading June 27, 2024

I'm running on an hour and a half of sleep so hopefully this is coherent. Well, I started this post, and I think Adam is going to take it over, so hopefully he can help fill in the details. Today had a somber tone that followed it around all day. This is absolutely not where … Continue reading June 14, 2024

Today was a day of fun visitors and new adventures. When I arrived, the room was still dark since David was snoozing. I spoke to his nurse who was sitting right outside his room where he could watch both of his patients. He said David slept well through the night, which was excellent. Then I … Continue reading April 24, 2024

Well, it was kind of an interesting day today. David started off by being visited by his friends from vascular who placed a peripheral IV in his arm. This was because the folks from CT called and said that they would be ready for him at 8AM, but he needed an IV for the contrast. … Continue reading April 23, 2024

I feel as if David had a good day today. It was his first day on full feeds and he seems to be handling it well. Tomorrow they will start fortifying his feeds. With eating his food though, comes blow outs, and he had a massive one for his nurse last night. Also, he no … Continue reading March 9, 2024

David had mostly good day. The nurse who has had the most time with him was back from her week off, and we were excited to see her again. There have been lots of changes since she last saw him, but it's nice having some consistency and she seems to understand him really well too. … Continue reading March 8, 2024

Not much of note for today. They are still weaning his ventilation support and have been mostly happy with his progress. They have been giving him some non-IV medications to help him wean off some of the IV sedation. However, David continues to get very upset whenever he starts to wake up. He holds his … Continue reading March 7, 2024

David had another good day! Overnight he had some small swings in his blood pressure but overall he was happy. He wasn't peeing as much as they would like overnight but after hearing that while the doctors and nurses did their rounds he started to pee more. However they would like to increase it a … Continue reading February 28, 2024

Just a mini update. David is settled in and doing well as I get to sleep in his room. He is under lots of blankets keeping him warm. A byproduct of them cooling him down for his operation I believe.
February 26, 2024 – Update 2
David went back to the OR at 3:30. His surgeon speculated that it could take an hour if David was able to come off of ECMO and needed nothing else, or else 3-4 hours if he needed the central shunt. I eventually left Adam at the hospital around 9:30 because I had a few things … Continue reading February 26, 2024 – Update 2
